Smart Justice. Safer Community.
I've dedicated my career to serving the people of Whatcom County. With deep roots in our community and a commitment to justice, I bring both compassion and accountability to the prosecutor's office.
I live in Bellingham with my wife Kara and our children. When I'm not working to keep our community safe, I enjoy exploring the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest with my family.
I believe that effective prosecution requires both strength and empathy—holding those who break the law accountable while also working to address the root causes of crime and supporting rehabilitation.
Erik brings extensive experience across multiple jurisdictions. Erik has commanded the felony division as Chief Criminal Deputy Prosecutor for over seven years—building a proven record of leadership, accountability, and justice.
Erik was instrumental in integrating the Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion (LEAD) program into practice—a groundbreaking approach that diverts individuals with behavioral health challenges away from incarceration and into treatment.
Personally selected to try the Mandi Stavik homicide—one of the most high-profile cold cases in county history. Alongside veteran prosecutor Dave McEachran, Erik secured a conviction against Timothy Bass, delivering long-awaited justice in a case that made national headlines.
